TOP 10 unmissable local markets!

Which local markets should be at the top of your list to visit? Farmer's markets, but not just food products! You'll find all sorts of local and regional products and specialities.

1. The must-see: Romans

The market in Romans-sur-Isère at the place Maurice Faure (and Cours Pierre-Didier) is a weekly event that all the locals will remember from their childhood as a Sunday morning tradition! It's fantastic wandering around the different stalls! It's the thing to do on a Sunday morning, to go and pick up a roasted chicken and potatoes that have been prepared on the market stalls, then take them home for Sunday lunch. While we're there, we also pick up some sheep's milk cheese, honey, deli meats and seasonal fruit and vegetables!

2. The most unusual one: Valence

This local farmer's market in Valence (Place Saint-Jean) is held every Tuesday from 5pm to 8pm (4pm to 7pm in winter). Here, you can meet the producers, breeders and horticulturists of our region who are committed to reasonable or organic farming: fresh and seasonal products, herbal teas, aromatic plants, bread, 'pogne', walnuts, honey, wines and much more.

3. The traditional one: Beauvallon

The market comes to Beauvallon every Sunday morning. These local producers are friendly and will take the time to tell you about their products, how they make them, what to serve them with, etc. It's an enjoyable experience to come to this market place and admire the colours on the stalls! Flowers, fish, meat, fruit and vegetables, there's something for everyone! Don't miss the ready-to-eat salads on the Chinese stall or the paella and roasted chickens at the top end of the market. It's a simple moment to just come and explore the stalls and discover or rediscover the products and specialities from our beautiful region.

4. The new one: Charpey

This brand-new food market is held on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month at the Place des Ecoles. A dozen local farmers and craftspeople come to display local, top-quality products! An enjoyable atmosphere guaranteed with snack bar and entertainment! Children can even go for a ride on a horse-drawn carriage.

5. The original one: Châtillon-saint-Jean

The market in Chatillon Saint-Jean comes back every year when spring arrives, in April! Come to the Place de la Mairie on Tuesday afternoons from 4pm to 6:30pm to meet the producers with their fruit and vegetables, walnuts, honey, jam, bread, sweet and savoury delights, etc. You'll even find a cosmetics stall!

6. Another new one: Saint-Paul-les-Romans

There's now a market in Saint-Paul-les-Romans! Every Saturday morning there's an indoor market at La Joyeuse sports and cultural centre (you've got no excuse not to go now, even if it's raining), stall holders come to sell their products: vegetables, fruit, honey, meat, poultry and rotisserie products.

7. The "Provencal" one: Valence

The market at Place des Clercs in Valence is a longstanding tradition! We enjoy going there on Saturday mornings to buy flowers, cheese and vegetables. And why not go for a drink on the terrace while you're there.

8. The cosy one: Peyrus

Peyrus market is held at the Place de la Mairie every Saturday from 8:30am to 12:30pm. You'll find everything you need there for breakfast (pastries and jams, bread), lunch or dinner (Foodtruck, snack bar, etc.) and products to take away (rotisserie products, fruit, vegetables, cheese, eggs, fruit juice, honey, olives). As well as plants and flowers to treat yourself or loved ones!

9. The traditional one: Chabeuil

Just ten minutes away from Valence, at the heart of Chabeuil at the Place de la Poste, you'll find the market every Tuesday morning to fill your baskets with fruit and vegetables and much more! On this diverse market, you'll find kitchen utensils, clothes and accessories, for fans of fish head over to the fishmonger who will give you some great tips for your choice of fish and how to cook it. This market is easy to get to, and while you're here you can go for a stroll along the Véore river and admire the beautiful historic building that houses the town hall and the fortified gate .

10. Or a pleasant detour...: Saint-Donat sur l'Herbasse

On Monday mornings from 8am to 1pm, come and visit the local farmer's market in Saint Donat sur l’Herbasse (Rue Georges Bert) or come on Saturday mornings at the same times (Place du 8 Mai 1945). To (re)discover: local products from the Drôme des Collines. Your wicker basket will soon be full of colourful produce with exceptional flavours!
